Privacy Policy
Effective March 29, 2026.
What We Collect
When you sign up for the Mythoscope beta, we collect the information you provide: your first name, email address, and — once you're in the beta — your cultural polarities (loves, hates, and optionally dreams and body preferences). We also collect usage data such as when you last logged in, your friend connections, and your reading history.
How We Use It
Your email is used to authenticate your account via magic link sign-in, and to send occasional updates about the Mythoscope beta program. Your cultural polarities are used to generate your Mythoscope readings — personalized psychological reflections created by AI (see "AI Processing" below). We do not use your data for advertising, profiling, or any purpose beyond the Mythoscope experience.
AI Processing
The Mythoscope generates readings by sending your cultural polarities (loves, hates, and other input you provide) to Anthropic's Claude API, a third-party AI service operated by Anthropic, PBC. This processing is essential to the core function of the product — it is how your readings are created.
What is sent to Anthropic: your polarities (the cultural items you've entered) and the Mythoscope's interpretive methodology. Your name, email address, and other account information are not sent. Anthropic does not use data submitted through their API to train their AI models, per their commercial API data policy.
Who Sees It
Your information is accessible only to the Mythoscope founding team — currently Jace Mercer and Peter Boris. We do not sell, rent, share, or disclose your personal information to third parties, except as described in the AI Processing section above.
Data Storage and Security
Your account data is transmitted securely via HTTPS and stored in Cloudflare's infrastructure (D1 database and Workers KV), which maintains SOC 2 Type II compliance and encrypts data at rest. Readings and account data are stored separately from authentication credentials. We do not store passwords — authentication uses secure one-time codes delivered to your email.
Cookies and Tracking
The Mythoscope beta app uses session cookies strictly for authentication — to keep you signed in after you verify your magic link code. These cookies are essential to the functioning of the app and cannot be disabled while using the service. We do not use cookies for advertising or cross-site tracking.
We use Google Analytics 4 (GA4) to understand aggregate traffic patterns (page views, session duration, general geographic region). GA4 uses its own cookies for this purpose. We do not use this data to identify individual mythonauts or to serve ads.
Your Rights
You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal data at any time by emailing jace@jacemercer.com. This includes your account data, polarities, and any readings generated from them. If you are located in the EU/EEA, you have additional rights under GDPR including the right to data portability, the right to object to processing, and the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. California residents have rights under CCPA, including the right to know what data we collect and the right to request its deletion.
Children
The Mythoscope is not intended for individuals under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from minors.
Changes
If we update this policy, we will post the revised version here with a new effective date. We will not materially reduce your privacy protections without notice.
